Finding Peters Township Residents
Peters Township has no single government resident roster. The useful first record depends on the question. A current property question belongs with Washington County GIS and assessment data. A past ownership question belongs with the Recorder of Deeds. A public court question starts with the statewide docket search and may need a county terminal. Family-history work often moves to the Peters Township Public Library Archives, then to county estate or state archival material. Each source places a name in a distinct setting and at a distinct date.
Save a placement field whenever one appears. A parcel ID, deed instrument number, docket number, archive box, or directory page is stronger than a bare name and makes a second check possible. This matters when the same surname appears more than once or a historic record uses McMurray, Venetia, or another postal community rather than the township name.
- Search a known address or owner in county GIS or the property record, then save the parcel ID and site address.
- Use the sales reference, deed book, or instrument number to locate the recorded transfer in Landex.
- For a court question, narrow a UJS participant search to Washington County and record the docket number and filing date.
- For an earlier household, ask PTPL Archives for the pertinent finding aid, directory item, map, or yearbook.
- When a public agency record is not online, send a focused Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law request to its actual custodian.
Note: A result can show a dated link to a record, but it cannot prove every household member or current residence.
Peters Township Resident Record Offices
The township, Washington County, and Pennsylvania each keep a separate part of the Peters Township record trail. The Township is the right office for its own minutes, permits, and non-exempt administrative files. County offices keep the most useful property, deed, court, estate, and voter materials. State agencies hold vital records and the statewide court docket service. Asking the correct custodian avoids treating the township as a county recorder or court clerk.

The Recorder and Tax Revenue offices identify ownership and recorded land history. Elections maintains its own registration database and request channel. Court files are split among the Clerk of Courts, Prothonotary, and Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans' Court, so a court request should name the filing office and case type.
Peters Township Parcel Leads in P.A.S.
The county Tax Revenue gateway links assessment, parcel, claim, and property-record tools. Its Property Records Public Access Site, or P.A.S., offers owner, address, parcel, advanced, and map routes. It is a practical starting point when the available fact is a Peters Township street address or a known owner. The result is a property lead, not a residents directory. A tax mailing address may belong to a trust, agent, post-office box, or owner who lives elsewhere.
Review the Washington County P.A.S. interface before selecting a search route.

The visible tabs separate the searches, so an address result should retain its parcel number before moving to deed or tax records.
| P.A.S. route | Confirmed controls | Research value |
|---|---|---|
| Owner | Last and first name, sort, result count | Property party and parcel/address lead |
| Address | Street required; number, suffix, direction optional | Parcels associated with an address |
| Parcel | Full or partial parcel ID, wildcard help | Direct parcel profile |
| Advanced | Owner, parcel, sales date/price, street criteria | Focused current-property research |
A nonsensitive municipal-building sample shows parcel information, sales, values, building, sketch, photo, and map areas. Its sales information can supply an instrument number, deed book/page, grantor, grantee, date, type, and price. That instrument or book/page is the verified handoff to Landex.
Peters Township Records Through a Parcel
County GIS and assessment systems work together but have different roles. The GIS property map accepts a property ID, address, or owner in one type-ahead search. Its search results display Owner Name, Property ID, and Site Address, then connect selected parcels to Assessor, Print Parcel Summary, and Tax Collector tools. Tax Revenue identifies Assessments as the real-estate assessment function and Claims as the delinquent-tax layer. Neither source identifies every occupant of a Peters Township address.
See the county property links before moving from a map result to an official property profile.

The county gateway makes the distinction between parcel discovery, assessment, and claims clear. Start by recording the label on the source. A site or situs address is the land location; an owner mailing address is where tax notices go and should never be relabeled as a residence.
- Parcel
- A county identifier for a tract in assessment and GIS systems.
- Situs address
- The location of the land itself, distinct from a tax mailing address.
- Instrument number
- A number assigned to a recorded document for retrieval.
- Assessment record
- A property and tax record, not a household census.
Peters Township Deed Records Since 1781
Washington County says deeds from 1781 to the present are available remotely through Landex. That long range gives Peters Township family and property research a documented land trail. Landex offers General, Instrument Number, and Book and Page modes. In General mode, select Washington County, enter a party name, and narrow a common name by date or document type. The service documents * for a string and ? for one character, but a name search stops at 250 matches.
When P.A.S. supplies an instrument number or book/page, use that direct Landex mode rather than forcing an address into a deed index. Older rural deeds may use a legal description, lot, subdivision plan, or party names rather than a current house number. The Recorder's public-search computers are the fallback for an account, payment, image, or old-index issue. Certified copies must come from the courthouse. A recorded party shows a transaction, not necessarily a Peters Township residence.
Note: Landex has a $5 order-processing charge plus document pricing, and a current result should be checked before ordering.
Current Peters Township Resident Directories
Current Peters Township resident directories are separate official and voluntary systems, not one database. A parcel tool identifies a property party. A regulated voter-list process may supply registration information under Pennsylvania law. Court dockets identify named parties and dates. PTPL and local organizations preserve historical or voluntary community material. The access rule is part of the record and should not be worked around.
| Source | What it can show | Custodian | Access path |
|---|---|---|---|
| GIS and assessment | Parcel, site address, owner lead | Washington County | County web tools |
| Recorded deeds | Parties, transfer date, instrument, legal description | Recorder of Deeds | Landex or public computers |
| Regulated voter lists | Fields vary by list product | Elections / DOS | Form and certification |
| Public court docket | Case party, court, dates, public disposition | UJS / filing office | Online search plus terminals |
| Local archive material | Dated telephone, school, map, community evidence | PTPL Archives | Digital item or appointment |
For one named person, compare independent dated records and retain placement fields from each. The detailed sequence is on the Peters Township resident lookup page. An owner, registrant, litigant, or subscriber should never be inflated into a claimed household.
Peters Township Voter Records by Rule
Pennsylvania's Check My Registration Status route is for a voter to check their own status. It is not a public Peters Township street browser. Washington County Elections maintains the county database and says voter-information requests need a form. The state voter-list request distinguishes a Public Information List, Street List, Walking List, and Full Voter Export List, each with its own fields and rules.
The Washington County Elections page shows the local information-request channel.

A request needs the correct product and county scope. The research records a $20 listed charge for a full voter export for one or all counties and $20 per county for other list types, delivered electronically. Verify live terms before relying on a current form.
The individual-status path is separate.

Use that route only for the individual purpose it states. Participation history does not reveal ballot choices, and ACP participants may use a substitute address for registration.
Peters Township Court Results Need Two Stops
A public UJS search can place a person in a docket, court, county, filing date, or public disposition. For a Peters Township matter, select Washington County where the form permits it and use participant name, date, or docket details carefully. The portal warns that juvenile, expunged, limited-access, certain Common Pleas civil, and other protected matters may not appear. A non-result is not a certified clearance and does not prove a file never existed.
The Washington County court access guidance explains the C-Track and counter alternatives.

Washington County says C-Track contains the replacement docket and document tools for its discontinued ERS service. A browser miss can still require Court Administration, the filing office, or a public terminal. The Prothonotary terminal is in Suite 510 and the Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans' Court terminal is in Suite 425 at 95 W. Beau St. Ask about a copy or certification charge before ordering.
Peters Township Vital and Estate Paths
Birth and death records from 1906 are held by Pennsylvania's Department of Health, not Peters Township. The Vital Records page identifies official online ordering, mail applications, and public offices. Current certified copies follow eligibility and identification rules. For genealogy, birth certificates become public at 105 years and death certificates at 50 years under 35 P.S. § 450.801, after which they are held by the State Archives.
The official ordering page shows access channels, not a name-browse directory.

Marriage records are held by the Washington County Register of Wills/Clerk of Orphans' Court, while divorce is generally a Court of Common Pleas file. An estate filing can establish a legal role only from the actual public document. A surname match alone does not establish an heir.
Historical Peters Township Resident Directories
Historical Peters Township resident directories are not a continuous shelf of annual city books. The local strength is the Peters Township Public Library Archives and its Local History Room. The archive holds documents, photographs, maps, plans, finding aids, and selected digitized items. Its verified M'Murray Telephone Company Rules & Directory from 1906 is a local exchange artifact. Read an item exactly as printed; do not add an assumed spouse, occupation, ownership status, or house number.
The PTPL Archives uses appointments when the archivist is available. Search the finished finding aids, ask about unprocessed collections, and keep the box, folder, page, and date in a research log. The collection-level details are on the Peters Township directory book page.
PTPL Chamber records document community and business guides beginning in 1961, with the final printed guide in 2017 and a series through 2018. They contain public facilities, officials, organizations, businesses, and community information, not a verified household roll. High-school yearbooks from 1944 forward are in-library reference material and offer a lawful former-classmate or family-history route.
Peters Township's Township Book Survives
PTPL holds municipal government records from 1803 to 2026, including a fragile Township Book for 1803 to 1866. Its contents include election hosts and results, auditor reports, relief authorizations, and stray-animal reports with local names. These are administrative snapshots, not a complete residents directory, but they can distinguish a surname in an early Peters Township question.
The collection has 28 boxes and four oversize boxes with no general restrictions, subject to the early volume's fragility. Selected material is digitized through PA Photos & Documents. The 2026 finding aids improve discovery at the collection and series level, so an archivist can help locate the narrowest relevant box or folder before a visit.
Note: An early local name indicates an administrative context, not a proven family relationship or a current address.
Peters Township Postal Names Need Care
Peters Township records use more than one postal community. County address-point data confirms five ZIP codes in the Township: 15241, 15317, 15330, 15332, and 15367. McMurray is the common 15317 label, while Venetia is used for 15367 parks and localities. Other Township points can carry Canonsburg, Eighty Four, Finleyville, Upper St. Clair, or Pittsburgh postal communities. Use Peters Township, Washington County for jurisdiction and preserve the source's historic village or postal wording.
The Peters Township government site is the municipal starting point for departments, meetings, permits, maps, and public-record access.

The municipal site does not replace county parcel, deed, court, or voter custodians. The ZIP-by-ZIP research route is on the Peters Township ZIP code directory.
Peters Township Requests Under RTKL
The Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law, Act 3 of 2008, 65 P.S. §§ 67.101–67.3104, is the fallback for an existing non-exempt agency record that is not online. The law begins with a presumption of access, subject to exemptions, privilege, another law, regulation, court order, or other limits. A request to Peters Township should identify a defined record, department, address or permit number if known, and date range. It cannot require an agency to create a custom residents directory or conduct research.
The Office of Open Records explanation describes the statewide framework, while the Township record-request form offers online and delivery options. Agencies normally respond in five business days, and the law allows a written extension in defined circumstances.
Peters Township Public-Safety Records Have Limits
Public-safety resources have narrow purposes and should not be treated as a general person search. The Washington County Correctional Facility says individual inmate records, including booking photos, charges, custody location, and release dates, are no longer released to the public. Pennsylvania's DOC locator covers state custody only, not the county facility or federal custody. A custody result also does not establish a person's present Peters Township residence.
The Pennsylvania State Police Megan's Law website is a statutory public-safety registry with its own warning and scope.

The State Police says registry information can be inaccurate or outdated and is not comprehensive. Its warning prohibits threats, intimidation, harassment, and other misuse. Urgent safety concerns belong with 911 or local law enforcement.
